Day 1 - Amman - Madaba - Mount Nebo - Baptism site

Madaba
Modern Madaba, 30 km southwest of Amman, continues an urban tradition that can be traced back at least 4,500 years. The ancient settlement, now mostly buried beneath the modern town, lies on a natural rise created by branches of the Wadi Madaba. On and around the tell are the remains of the classical town, represented most notably by the churches and mosaic pavements that have brought Madaba so much fame. The earliest reference to Madaba occurs in the Bible (Numbers 21:30) as part of a lament describing the conquest of a series of Moabite cities including Madaba by the Amorite King Sihon of Heshbon.

Mount Nebo
Mount Nebo, is the mountain considered to be where Moses saw the Promised Landed before he died, according to the Old Testament. At around 1,000 meters tall, Mt. Nebo sits 10 km northwest from Madaba. The site is frequently visited by travelers of religious faith who, just like Moses, want to have a breathtaking view over Israel. Most people choose to visit Mount Nebo with a tour. On a clear day, visitors may be able to spot Jericho and even Jerusalem, A Christian church from Byzantine times stands on the top of Mount Nebo and Mount Nebo is a pilgrimage since the 4th century,

Baptism site
Al-Maghtas, officially known as Baptism Site “Bethany Beyond the Jordan”, is an archaeological World Heritage site in Jordan, on the east bank of the Jordan River, considered to be the original location of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist and venerated as such since at least the Byzantine period

The Dead Sea
has the lowest elevation and is the lowest body of water on the surface of Earth. For several decades in the mid-20th century, the standard value given for the surface level of the lake was some 1,300 feet (400 meters) below sea level, The sea is mentioned numerous times in the bible and has long been associated with mysticism, wonderment, and religious significance in the Biblical era.
